Wednesday was our fourth grade field trip to the State House and Supreme Court since we are currently studying government in social studies. It was the perfect field trip!! Thanks to a grant we won from Target and to a generous PTO we traveled to Columbus on a Fun Bus. I don't want to ever ride a yellow school bus again! Once we arrived at the State House our representative, Troy Balderson, was waiting on us. He took us to the House Chamber and each student got to sit at a representative's desk while listening to Mr. Balderson and our fabulous tour guide speak. It was a privilege to do this since you can only sit on the floor of the House Chamber if you are escorted by a representative. Every other year we had to sit in the balcony and look down. Mr. Balderson stayed with us for our entire tour and had lunch with us on the lawn. The afternoon was spent at the Supreme Court. Another reason this trip was a huge success was that so many parents volunteered to chaperone and I didn't have to spend every minute counting my students and stressing that I was going to loose one in Columbus!
